Safeguarding and DBS Checks
St Joseph’s Specialist Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
All posts are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Successful applicants will therefore be required to complete an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Where a role involves regulated activity with children and/or adults, the appropriate DBS barred list check will also be undertaken.
It is a criminal offence for a person who is barred from working in regulated activity with children or adults to apply for a role involving that activity.
Under the Exceptions Order 1975, as amended in 2013 and 2020, certain spent convictions and cautions are protected and do not need to be disclosed to employers. Protected convictions and cautions must not be taken into account by employers. Further guidance on the filtering of convictions and cautions is available in the documents below.
Criminal Record Self-Disclosure
Shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide details of any unspent convictions and any convictions or cautions that are not protected (filtered) before their interview.
Candidates may also be asked to provide further information about their criminal record as part of the recruitment process.
Where an applicant is successful, any criminal record information provided during the recruitment process will be checked against the information disclosed on their enhanced DBS certificate before an appointment is confirmed.
