Education Visits

The students at St. Joseph’s access the community as part of their learning curriculum. Educational visits are made to a wide variety of places and are usually linked to the relevant project work the student is undertaking in class.

The local community is used for community facilities such as the leisure centre and library, for health issues and for shopping and leisure activities. The wider community is used for the older students to give them additional experience and for specialised visits.

Older students are invited to attend either a five day residential activity centre or a daily activity centre. The students are accompanied by St. Joseph’s staff and enjoy a fantastic week trying canoeing, climbing, problem solving, abseiling, raft building and many other activities.

Older students also take part in a travel skills programme which is designed for individual students so that they can practise making accompanied, shadowed and independent bus and rail travel. Students work through a step by step programme which is designed to meet the individual needs of each student.
