Pottery
No limits... Just possibilities
Pottery sessions are held in our new purpose-built Enterprise Centre. Our pottery room is bright and spacious, allowing our students to access the subject according to their own individual needs.
Students can work collectively and collaboratively round our large main work table or in their own space away from the main group but still part of the class.
Pottery classes are run either as a Creative Arts Session or as an Enterprise which is part of the Work-Related Learning programme. We also run 1:1 sessions for students undertaking accredited courses like Entry Level and GCSE Art or those who benefit from the sensory and therapeutic qualities of working with clay.
As well as exposing our students to the foundation skills of working with clay, our aim in Pottery is to:
- Encourage students to express themselves creatively, stimulating and developing their own imagination.
- Develop their cultural currency giving access to further creative opportunities in later life.
- Promote practical, critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Enhance fine motor skills and improve sensory development.
- Improve teamwork skill and foster a readiness for work.
Students have opportunities to exhibit their work in our Summer exhibition and other community venues.
